PIERO CHIMENTI – The international arbitration was expressed on the case of the two Marò, thus closing an 8-year dispute with India. The Tribunal, in fact, established that India will not be able to apply its own jurisprudence towards Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone on the Lexie case, as they performed military functions.

Italy, however, will have to pay India an economic compensation, which will have to be established by the two countries for violating the freedom of navigation thus leading to the loss of human lives of the fishermen of Kerala, physical damage, material damage to the boat and the moral damage suffered by the captain and other crew members of the Indian fishing boat Saint Anthony.
