The Texans confirmed the severity of the injury through an MRI exam.

The injury reportedly happened on a non-contact play during the team’s workout.

Watson was tied for the NFL lead with 19 touchdown passes, the most any NFL player has recorded through his first seven games.

Tom Savage will be under center when Houston (3-4-0) faces the Indianapolis Colts (2-6-0) on Sunday.

The Texans signed quarterback Matt McGloin to fill the roster vacancy. McGloin played one season under Houston coach Bill O‘Brien at Penn State.

McGloin, 27, played the past four seasons with the Oakland Raiders and passed for 1,868 yards, 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Watson, who led Clemson to the college national championship last season, was an immediate sensation as the 12th overall pick of the 2017 draft. He passed for 1,699 yards and rushed for 269 more and two scores.

Earlier Thursday, Watson was named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for October, becoming the first rookie quarterback in NFL history to win the award. He joined Barry Sanders (1989), Edgerrin James (1999), Mike Anderson (2000) and Kareem Hunt (2017) as the only rookies to win the league’s player of the month award.

Not surprisingly, Watson also was named the AFC Rookie of the Month for October.

Watson completed 77 of 124 passes for 1,171 yards with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions in four games last month. The 22-year-old added 21 carries for 145 yards and a rushing touchdown.
