di OZGE YILIDIRIM – According to a government report published in April, alcohol poisoning has increased 10 times in Iran last year. Methanol cannot be smelled or tasted in beverages. It causes delayed organ and brain damage. Symptoms include chest pain, nausea, hyperventilation, blindness and even coma. Iranian health ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour said that 5,011 people were poisoned by methanol alcohol, and 90 people lost their eyes or were damaged by alcohol poisoning.

Hossein Hassanian, a health ministry consultant, said that people who lost their views could be much higher. Iran faces the worst coronavirus outbreak in the Middle East, with 5,806 deaths and more than 91,000 confirmed cases. In Iran, the government requires manufacturers of toxic methanol to add an artificial color to their products, so that the public can separate it from ethanol, the type of alcohol that can be used to clean wounds.
