19th Salento International Film Festival: 6-11 september in Bisceglie’s Politeama

by Silvestro Carlo Montrone – Siff is a polyform, hyperkinetic and experimental creature that thrives on young and independent visions, never banal and qualitatively high. A great festival of research cinema that brings together the greatest talents of the contemporary cinema scene in a natural setting of rarefied and unparalleled elegance.

The Salento festival is nomadic and centrifugal by vocation, never equal to itself, in constant contact with everything that is brand new and therefore in progress: since 2010 the festival has, in fact, travelled the world, with a unique and difficult to replicate formula, presenting numerous independent productions with ad hoc events in the most disparate places on the planet including London, Zurich, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Hong Kong, Santiago de Chile, Yerevan, Oslo, Reykjavik.

This year, for the well-known pandemic reasons, it will be a different edition, undoubtedly more static and devoided of the usual side events, but no less interesting in the competitive program that will merge in a sort of postmodern hybridization of feature films, documentaries and short films between screenings in presence and others in streaming, cross and delight of the new cinema market.

Siff, included by the IFF film festival magazine in the list of most important events in the field of  emerging film festivals, is a highly personal, consolidated reality full of ideas that aims to spread independent film culture without barriers by speaking only the language of its time to give an answer to the urgencies of the present. The result is a winning product that beats many competitors over time for its freshness and courage to dare, by polarizing very disparate visions, projects and stories in a prismatic unicum in which antithetical cultures and the infinite universes of our planet coexist harmoniously.
